Before Cocoa Essence, the cocoa Cadbury produced, like that of many other manufacturers, contained high levels of cocoa butter. The turning point for the Cadbury business was the introduction of a new processing technique, resulting in the 1866 launch of 'Cadbury Cocoa Essence', the UK's first unadulterated cocoa. He commented that if the business ever made a profit of a thousand pounds a year he would retire a happy man Read moreĪN INNOVATIVE PROCESSING TECHNIQUE IS INTRODUCED George looked after production and buying and Richard looked after sales and marketing, which wasn't in good shape. To keep the business alive, the brothers worked long hours and lived frugally. It was the equivalent of about £600,000 today, but it didn’t solve all their problems. Luckily they had a financial lifeline: each invested £4,000 in the business, money that had been left to them by their mother. Other cocoa manufacturers were going bust and they must have been worried that Cadbury Bros would soon be joining them. Although they’d both worked for the company for a number of years, taking control must still have been a daunting prospect for Richard and George. The brothers were just 25 and 21 when they took charge of the business.
We built an application to meet our Clients’ real-life needs, rather than something we thought they may need.”Ĭonstruction Computer Software (CCS) is now RIB CCS, an RIB Group company and a pioneer in the transformation and digitalisation of the engineering and construction industry.John's health rapidly declined and he finally retired in 1861, handing over complete control of the business to his sons Richard and George. “Importantly, we garnered major input from our Clients, who were very specific about what type of functionality they wanted.
“Connect may have started as my idea, but the final product is a result of input from multiple talented people within the RIB CCS organisation, around the globe. He says while the idea for Connect originally came from him, the outcome is a collaborative effort. Connect BI does this too,” adds de Klerk. “Connect BI gives the user a snapshot of a particular project – all projects can then be consolidated to provide a ‘company on a page’, which requires consolidating all BuildSmart data. In this sense, Candy has essentially been transformed into an enterprise system,” notes de Klerk.Īs part of its offering, RIB CCS has introduced a business intelligence (BI) tool – Connect BI – which allows for the dashboarding of information and delivers a ‘project on a page’. With Connect, Candy users at each site can access data from everywhere else.
“Many of our companies have operations in different parts of the country.
Instead of waiting until the end of the month to run Candy and BuildSmart and consolidate their costs, Connect gives users access to information on a daily basis – this means challenges and discrepancies can be identified on the go and be nipped in the bud before they become major and often costly issues. “There is not another core, like-for-like solution that consolidates, draws insights from and reports on Candy and BuildSmart data like Connect does,” says de Klerk. After a two-year development process, de Klerk and his innovation team came up with a solution that gathers all RIB CCS solution data – not only from Candy, but BuildSmart too – into one central repository, allowing users to review, analyze and deliver accurate answers to business-critical questions – anywhere, anytime, on any device – in real-time.
